barto.ch: Smart Farming at Bison AG

barto.ch: Smart Farming at Bison AG
March 1, 2025

Overview

Since March 2025 I work as a full-stack software engineer at Bison AG, focused on barto.ch: the Smart Farming platform Swiss farms use for field calendars, ÖLN documentation, modular crop and livestock blocks, and mobile workflows.

This case study covers my engineering scope, not the whole Bison product line. Public product positioning lives on bison-group.com and barto.ch.

What I ship

  • Operator-facing UX in Angular: field calendar, documentation flows, and modular blocks farmers use daily on desktop and mobile.
  • Java / Spring Boot services behind OpenAPI contracts: feature delivery with predictable API shapes for the SPA and integrations.
  • Cattle nutrition: feed planning and ration control with outcomes in Highcharts (comparisons and farm-level views operators can act on).
  • Barn-side prototypes: interfaces for research-backed tools (e.g. AgriVue thermal hoof scans with LLM-assisted analysis) so models become usable in the barn, not only in slides.

Context on this portfolio

Venture builds (Ayentic, Sureva) and open-source-style tooling (PublicBrain) are separate from my Bison employment. Current day job: barto.ch. Side ventures: case studies linked from About.
